 Boy Scouts and such...
« Thread Started on Oct 31, 2003, 3:20pm »

Don't know where to put this thread...Girls have sued to get into men only academy's, etc. etc. Now, the ACLU is suing to allow girls into the Boy Scouts..

Question: Should we just give up Gender clubs? Shall boys be allowed into the Girl scouts? And, Legally speaking, a 40 year old man should be allowed to join the Brownies, otherwise it is age and sex discrimination...

Where is this world going? Just a thought....

You put this in the right place!! That's what I want this thread to be for. Things that the members find important and would like to discuss. Glad to see someone posting ;D

I'm from the south and tradition is a word you hear alot. Boy scouts and girl scouts are not a bad thing. Neither do I find them to be discriminating.....they just teach gender specific hmmm what's the word I'm looking for here......things. ;D The boys learn to track in the woods and such. The girls learn how to sew badges, make friends, girl talk. ( I became a polar bear for swimming in freezing water at camp in the Pisgah National Forest :D ;D)But along the way they teach what it means to work as a team, to listen to leaders, confidence etc. etc. I think that some things should be kept apart. You know like a 'girls' night, that's not being sexist, but it happens all the time. Like a man really wants to sit and listen to girls talk about shoes or such HEHE I think some things should just be left they way they are. It's like people are running out of things to sue for or fight for. Hello a guy sued 'McDonald's' for making him fat. That says alot about where this Country is going. I can come across really opiniated and stubborn and I apologize, you can thank my dad for that, right Cyrus!! But I really do love to hear what other people think. My mom says my dad & I love to argue, but I think the word debate sounds so much better ;D

lol, carefull what ya ask for!! We'll pick this place up and debate/discuss stuff...

I see that although you stated in your religion section that you wouldn't tolerate 'diss'ing' the Christian religion, you accepted that last discussion. That's shows allot for your character.

There are many opinions on many things, most people will be mature about it, NOW, you didn't answer the question, if the ACLU wins, should boys and Men be allowed into the Girl scouts and Brownies?

yes yes, I read you said they should be seperate, OK, maybe my question really is, why would a girl/women want into these boys clubs in the first place? As a woman (as far as I know) lol, smile....SMILE, what do you think??

It aggravates me. I think women should stay out of mens clubs & vice versa. Same applies for kids IMO. I have no idea what drives a person woman or man to want to join a club where they are not wanted. Nor do I understand what point they are trying to prove, that the system can be beat??? I don't know. But as a 'woman', I'm not a feminist but I do believe women should be strong beings, but when they do try to get into a male only club it makes me mad. They give 'all' women a bad name. You can be strong and still be a woman, I don't think they understand that.

I agree, it doesn't make women any less, for they are equal, but let boys be boys and girls be girls... ;D

I think this is stupid. Just let them have their clubs. How is it discriminatory if they also have both clubs for boys and girls. I don't know. I kinda have to question why a man would want into girl scouts. I mean, that sounds kinda creepy, you know?

Were the girls ever able to get into boy scouts or boys' clubs or schools?

Never followed up on this one. Maybe Firefly knows. I'd also like an update.

But you don't question why a woman would want into the boy scouts? Remeber the feminine movement and equality, yet we still want to pick and choose? Don't forget all the woman teachers in the news lately having their young students as 'boy toys'

I never followed up on this either Java, at the time, looked like a good subject to 'stir the pot' in here..lol ;)

I think that that day that I read it, I must have misunderstood it, because I went back and read it yesterday and I was like "why did I put that?" I really confused myself there. Yes, I definitely wonder why a grown woman would want to hang out with a bunch of little boys. Thats pretty weird too. I mean, Boy Scouts is obviously for boys. It says so in the name, just like Girl Scouts is for girls. If girls and boys start going into the seperate clubs, then what is the use for the two seperate clubs anymore? I guess that they could somehow make a club that combines boys and girl scouts but they should also keep the other two seperate.

I don't know about the Scouts, but I do know that Campfire Girls allow boys now...

I don't think there is anything wrong with the Boy or Girl Scouts the way they are...and this whole scenario...

is absolutely crazy ...what kind of nut would want to do that? :-X I know I wouldn't want him around my 6 year old daughter!

Geez! What is this world coming to? ???

BTW....I don't mean that you're crazy Firefly, just the mindset of the people who would actually DO that..
