What's your favorite song and its lyrics of all time?

Bob Seiger ~ Old Time Rock & Roll

Just take those old records off the shelf
I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself
Today's music ain't got the same soul
I like that old time rock 'n' roll
Don't try to take me to a disco
You'll never even get me out on the floor
In ten minutes i'll be late for the door
I like that old time rock'n' roll

Still like that old time rock'n' roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock 'n' roll

Won't go to hear them play a tango
I'd rather hear some blues or funky old soul
There's only sure way to get me to go
Start playing old time rock 'n' roll
Call me a relic, call me what you will
Say i'm old-fashioned, say i'm over the hill
Today' music ain't got the same soul
I like that old time rock 'n' roll

Still like that old time rock'n' roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock 'n' roll

That's a pretty good one. Man, I've had so many songs stuck in my head here lately I can't even think about which one is my favorite. I know one that I always love singing and listening to, especially when I'm out in a bar or something is Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville.

MARGARITAVILLE Jimmy Buffett
Nibblin' on sponge cake,
watchin' the sun bake;
All of those tourists covered with oil.
Strummin' my six string on my front porch swing.
Smell those shrimp--
They're beginnin' to boil.
Wasted away again in Margaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
But I know it's nobody's fault.

Don't know the reason,
Stayed here all season
With nothing to show but this brand new tattoo.
But it's a real beauty,
A Mexican cutie, how it got here
I haven't a clue.

Wasted away again in Margaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
Now I think,-- hell it could be my fault.

I blew out my flip flop,
Stepped on a pop top;
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home.
But there's booze in the blender,
And soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on.

Wasted away again in Margaritaville
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
But I know, it's my own damn fault.
Yes, and some people claim that there's a woman to blame, And I know it's my own damn fault

( Stardust- Nat King Cole )

And now the purple dusk of twilight time
Steals across the meadows of my heart
High up in the sky the little stars climb
Always reminding me that we're apart

You wander down the lane and far away
Leaving me a song that will not die
Love is now the stardust of yesterday
The music of the years gone by

Sometimes I wonder why I spend
The lonely night dreaming of a song
The melody haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you
When our love was new
And each kiss an inspiration
But that was long ago
Now my consolation
Is in the stardust of a song

Beside a garden wall
When stars are bright
You are in my arms
The nightingale tells his fairy tale
A paradise where roses bloom
Though I dream in vain
In my heart it will remain
My stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain

Dream a Little Dream
Mama Cass

Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper I love you
Birds singing in the sycamore tree
Dream a little dream of me

Say nighty-night and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me
While I'm alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on, dear
Still craving your kiss
I'm longing to linger til dawn, dear
Just saying this

Sweet dreams til sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on, dear
Still craving your kiss
I'm longing to linger til dawn, dear
Just saying this

Sweet dreams til sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries far behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

I have so many! Tiny Dancer by Elton John...Scenes from an Itailian Restaurant by Billy Joel....but I guess, one of my all time favs is At Last by Etta James:

At last my love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song

Ohh yeah yeah
At last
the skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you

I found a dream, that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known

Ohh yeah yeah…
You smile, you smile
oh And then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
for you are mine....
At Last

Mie changes all the time, right now its thrice - in years to come

Thrice In Years To Come

I want to take the bullet,
The one aimed straight for your heart,
I want to meet the wolves halfway,
And let them tear me apart.
But that's not the way they do it here.

I want to lay on the tracks,
Feel hot steel screaming at me,
Expose the bones on my back,
Let me show you what i mean.
Yeah its a different kind of love,
I want to climb barbed wire fences
And warm our hands in blood.

And this is my gift,
Is asking you to fix
My ruined hands.
And its a gift that keeps on giving,
And its a gift that keeps on giving,
And its a gift that keeps on giving,
And right now its all i have to give.

I want to lay on the tracks,
Feel hot steel screaming at me,
Expose the bones on my back,
Let me show you what i mean
I want to lay on the tracks,
Feel hot steel screaming at me,
Expose the bones on my back,
Let me show you what i mean

I want to write the perfect song,
And play it just for you,
While you are tangled up in sleep.
I need you more than ill ever know
Until i stop breathing
My lungs will take you for granted.

Michael W. Smith ~ The Heart of Worship

(this song means so much to me, and even more so because a friend who died... he choked on a piece of bread... his parents played this song that he had sung before)

When the music fades
And all is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring something that's of worth
That will bless your heart

I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart

I'm coming back to the heart of worship
and it's all about You, all about you Jesus
I'm sorry Lord for the thing that I've made it
And it's all about You, all about You, Jesus

King of endless worth
No one could express
How much you deserve
Though I'm weak and poor
All I have is yours
Every single breath

I cry everytime I hear this song. When I was a teenager my boyfriend died (I was 16) and then one of my best friends (I was 19 & so was he). This was his favorite song and we use to listen to it everytime we went somewhere. They were both punk-rockers and it was really rough for my circle of friends when we lost them. I still find it ironic when I read the lyrics.

Dream On
Artist: Aerosmith

Every time that I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face gettin' clearer
Fffffff... the past has gone
It went by like dusk to dawn
Isn't that the way
Everybody's got their dues in life to pay

Yeah... I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know... how to win

Half my life's in books written pages
Live and learn from fools and from sages
You know it's true
All the things come back to you

Sing with me sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing it with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

Well... sing with me sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing it with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away... ahh

Dream on... dream on... dream on
Dream yourself a dream come true
Dream on... dream on... dream on
And dream until your dream comes true

Dream on... dream on... dream on... dream on
Dream on... dream on... dream on... aaahhh...

Sing with me sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing it with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow good Lord will take you away

Sing with me sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing it with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

simple plan's perfect

Hey dad look at me.
Think back and talk to me
Did I grow up according to plan?
And do you think I’m wasting my time…
Doing things I wanna do
But it hurts when you disapprove all along.

And now I try hard to make it
I just want to make you proud
I’m never gonna be good enough for you
I can’t pretend that I’m alright
And you can’t change me

Cuz we lost it all
Nothing lasts forever
I’m sorry I can’t be perfect
Now it’s just too late
And we can’t go back
I’m sorry I can’t be perfect

I try not to think
About the pain I feel inside
Did you know you used to be my hero?
All the days you spent with me
Now seem so far away
And it feels like you don’t care anymore

And now I try hard to make it
I just want to make you proud
I’m never gonna be good enough for you
I can’t stand another fight
And nothing’s alright

Cuz we lost it all
Nothing lasts forever
I’m sorry I can’t be perfect
Now it’s just too late
And we can’t go back
I’m sorry I can’t be perfect

Nothing’s gonna change the things that you said
Nothing’s gonna make this right again
Please don’t turn your back
I can’t believe it’s hard just to talk to you
But you don’t understand

Cuz we lost it all
Nothing lasts forever
I’m sorry I can’t be perfect
Now it’s just too late
And we can’t go back
I’m sorry I can’t be perfect

Cuz we lost it all
Nothing lasts forever
I’m sorry I can’t be perfect
Now it’s just too late
And we can’t go back
I’m sorry I can’t be perfect

I really like Likin Park..

This song sits so well with me..

"Somewhere I Belong"

(When this began)
I had nothing to say
And I get lost in the nothingness inside of me
(I was confused)
And I let it all out to find
That I’m not the only person with these things in mind
(Inside of me)
But all the vacancy the words revealed
Is the only real thing that I’ve got left to feel
(Nothing to lose)
Just stuck/ hollow and alone
And the fault is my own, and the fault is my own

[Chorus]
I wanna heal, I wanna feel what I thought was never real
I wanna let go of the pain I’ve held so long
(Erase all the pain till it’s gone)
I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I’m close to something real
I wanna find something I’ve wanted all along
Somewhere I belong

And I’ve got nothing to say
I can’t believe I didn’t fall right down on my face
(I was confused)
Looking everywhere only to find
That it’s not the way I had imagined it all in my mind
(So what am I)
What do I have but negativity
’Cause I can’t justify the way, everyone is looking at me
(Nothing to lose)
Nothing to gain/ hollow and alone
And the fault is my own, and the fault is my own

[Repeat Chorus]

I will never know myself until I do this on my own
And I will never feel anything else, until my wounds are healed
I will never be anything till I break away from me
I will break away, I'll find myself today

[Repeat Chorus]

I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I’m somewhere I belong
I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I’m somewhere I belong
Somewhere I belong

I have so many favorite songs but the one that's my absolute favorite right now is Smile Empty Soul's "With This Knife." It speaks to me because I tend to get emotionally attached to people very quickly and it's hard for me to let go...

"With This Knife" by Smile Empty Soul

I let myself fall into a lie
I let my walls come down
I let myself smile and feel alive
I let my walls come down
no matter how i try i don't know why
you push so far away
you wrapped your hands tight around my heart
and squeezed it full of pain

with this knife i'll cut out the part of me
the part that cares for you
with this knife i'll cut out the heart of me
the heart that cares for you

i can't believe the way you took me down
i never saw the pain
coming in a million broken miles
like poison in my veins

[chorus]

the hate and the fear
the nightmares that wake me up
in the tears
the nightmares and (the hate)...

Flying For Me

Well I guess that you probably know by now
I was one who wanted to fly
I wanted to ride on that arrow of fire right up into heaven
And I wanted to go for every man
Every child, every mother of children
I wanted to carry the dreams of all people right up to the stars

And I prayed that I’d find an answer there
Or maybe I would find a song
Giving a voice to all of the hearts that cannot be heard
And for all of the ones who live in fear
And all of those who stand apart
My being there would bring us a little step closer together

They were flying for me
They were flying for everyone
They were trying to see a brighter day for each and everyone

They gave us their light
They gave us their spirit and all they could be
They were flying for me
They were flying for me

And I wanted to wish upon the milky way
And dance upon a falling star
I wanted to give myself and free myself, and join myself with it all

Given the chance to dream, it can be done
The promise of tomorrow is real
Children of spaceship earth
The future belongs to us all

She was flying for me
She was flying for everyone
She was trying to see a brighter day for each and everyone

She gave us her light
She gave us her spirit and all she can be
She was flying for me
They were flying for me
They were flying for everyone
They were trying to see a brighter day for each and everyone

They gave us their light
They gave us their spirit and all they can be
They were flying for me
They were flying for me
They were flying for me
They were flying for me
